::: CEMR

Established in 1951, the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) brings together more than 100,000 local and regional authorities in Europe, federated through 50 national associations of local and regional authorities in 36 countries.

CEMR works to promote a united Europe that is based on local and regional self government and democracy. To achieve this goal it seeks to shape the future of Europe by enhancing the local and regional contribution, to influence European law and policy, to exchange experience at local and regional level and to cooperate with partners in other parts of the world.

For over ten years, CEMR has been actively involved in the European Sustainable cities and towns campaign, and supported the exchange of experience towards greater sustainability. Sustainable development has become one of the key priorities of CEMR; both in influencing law and policy as well as in supporting voluntary initiatives in different policy areas such as integrated environmental management, energy efficiency, mobility and social inclusion.
