::: City of Malmö

Malmö is located in the South-West of Sweden. With about 270,000 inhabitants (650,000 in the metro area) it is the third largest city of Sweden and one of the earliest to be industrialised in whole Skandinavia. Since 1998 the city's investmens in its infrastructural development are high, for Malmö is developing its infrastructure to establish an ecologically sustainable city. The programme includes environmental actions in certain city districts where the districts are converted and extended according to ecological principles; expansion of bicycle paths and information programs leading to more frequent bicycle riding; creation of wetlands leading to greater biodiversity and reduced emissions of eutrophic nutrients; ecological conversion and extension of big parts of the city; soil remediation in districts.
