ICLEI is an association and local government advocate in European and international policymaking to accelerate sustainabiltiy. It runs campaigns,  programmes and projects as well as supplies services and products in support of local sustainability.

In Europe, ICLEI’s  thematic priorities include:

• introducing and mainstreaming new instruments, mechanisms and tools for municipal management for sustainable development with a focus on Good Urban Governance and Local Agenda 21, Sustainability Management, and Sustainable Procurement;
• the protection of global common goods, in particular of the climate, local air quality, and water;
• the promotion of sustainable communities and cities mainly through activities for more viable local economies, e.g. in the field of sustainable tourism, and for eco-efficient development.
• Top issues such as energy, transport or biodiversity are handled in a cross-cutting manner.

ICLEI's aervices, products and activities include the provision of publications and online information, tools, training and conferences, networking and city-to-city exchanges, campaigning and dissemination, research and piloting, as well as tailor-made technical services and consultancy.
